Today, he is a 'below the line' DP collaborator on 'long format' features - TV Drama and an 'above the line' Director/DP artisan to agency creatives on 'short format' commercials. Edols is storytelling and its film grammar, combining the science with the skill to paint with light and choreograph the lens - and he's fast. "How do I do it? The DP I aspire to be on 'fictional' stories has to be a master of 'film grammar' and have a passion for the art of story telling as well as the ability and understanding to discuss 'genre' with the director. These are essential for a successful collaboration. I pursue that 'collaboration' as the Director's 'interpreter' of his/her 'vision'. It is this 'vision' and the skills I have as a DP that help to tell the story with passion and imagination. To my understudies I explain, there is more to a Director of Photography 'DP' than the 'science of photography'. "There's no space for egos, inefficiency or waste. Get in, get it done, get out." |
